On this night
On this night Mary was in labor… (of course there is question if this is actually Jesus’ birthday, but for the sake of making life easy, I am considering this as his day of birth.)
I wonder.. what Mary did while in labor. Did she pace back and forth in the barn? Did Joseph hold her hand? Was he freaking out, as new Dads might do?
Was Mary frightened? Not only did she have labor and birth…. but she wasbirthing the baby was was to save us. She knew his time here could be limited.. yet she still carried on.
Did Mary fear the contractions, or accept them as they came? How long was her labor? How long did she push? What did they tied the cord off with, where did they put the placenta?
We get so caught up in gifts, and shopping, traveling and weather. We forget that on this day, so very many years ago, a young woman labored with her husband in a barn. She birthed a beautiful baby boy, and a family was born. Such an amazing thing she did. And it is something every woman is capable of. We just need to have faith, just as Mary did… Faith in ourselves, faith in our bodies. With faith, no matter what your beliefs are, anything is possible!
Merry Christmas everyone! And Happy Birthday Jesus!
